Garmisch

Last weekend we headed to Garmisch in southern Germany for our first snowboarding trip in 5 years. And BOY was it memorable! The photo below is from when we were out for a morning walk before heading up to the mountain. Our hotel was right on this creek running through town.We headed up to the mountain where I was quickly reminded that I actually don't even LIKE snowboarding. Here we are with one of our colleagues, Keely, heading up the mountain in a gondola. Yes...I am wearing a Burger King crown. I found it on the sidewalk on our way to the mountain and though it added a lot to my "image". It's like Cisco says, if you can't BE the part, you can at least LOOK the part. :)After the first run, I told the rest of the crew to save themselves and go on without me. Drama queen? NO...not me! They did go on without me...and had a great time. Here they are (Keely, Cisco, Laura and Chuck) relaxing a bit after a couple of tough runs.
Down on the bunny hill, 3 runs later...one of which potentially cracked my tail-bone...I sat in the lodge, had a couple beers and waited for the crew to finish their day. We all met back up as the sun was setting and the mountain was emptying. One last beer and we headed back to the gondola to take us down the mountain. Bad news though...the gondola was closed. I put my snowboard on one last time, just so that I could be REALLY certain that I never wanted to board again, and proceeded to have a hellish trip back down the mountain in the dark. An hour and a half later, including numerous falls and a portion of sliding down the mountain on my side (because my butt was FAR too sore to slide on), and now I have a snowboard and boots (used only 3 or 4 times) for sale :)

The next day we went to the Olympic stadium...That's the ski jump behind us. I'd like to say it was there that I broke my tail bone, but you would all know that I'm lying. :) Then we walked further on to the gorge. Here are a few pics from the incredible walk through the gorge. Though I was moving at a snail's pace, it was well worth the pain. The gorge was amazing!
Altogether, a very memorable experience...and seriously, I do have a snowboard and boots for sale!
